Bringing together artists from all four corners of the globe, the seasonal Skylab compilation marks its summer outing on Apollo. From Guatemala and the USA to mainland Europe, and beyond, a cosmopolitan blend of 7 artists brings together 9 different tracks.
Skylab opens with a collage of reverb-laden soundscapes and rhythms from Alex Hentze and Hokusai Collective with Matams and Deneha responsible for hypnotic rhythms and tribal heavy drums. Stacie Flur changes pace with her fizzing, popping-candy beats, criss-crossed with acid twinged riffs and laid-back groove. Navar echoes this latter vibe, particularly when coupled with beautiful pads that pitch and pan across the stereo spectrum.
Derek Marin and Eskadet, with 2 tracks apiece create wonderful dance-oriented structures. Rhythms and melodies play off each other in the 2 variations of Derek's "Risky Business", giving a wonderful 'old skool' sound. Eskadet treats us to deep bass lines full of warm character to complement the sharp riffs and stabs, before a shimmering, summer vibe perfectly characterises the whole Ibiza mystic. A perfect ending to a Summer Skylab of contrasting sounds and emotions.
