About Richard Denton & Martin Cook

(guitar, keyboards), and (guitar, keyboards) were both orchestra leaders who teamed up in the late 70s to compose and produce theme and incidental music for BBC Television serials and documentaries, most notably for The Theme From Hong Kong Beat, a series examining the Hong Kong Police Force which, when aired in 1978, topped the ratings and pushed the programmes theme into the UK singles chart. After this success they went on to produce themes for Diamonds In The Sky, The Great Egg Race and in 1980 a new electronic opening for the long-running science series Tomorrows World.

Before the internet a series about the ins and outs of one American circuit court was much more novel than it would ever be today. I watched the original series (!) and still remember how the theme music gave a flavour of what was to come - always thought it was a skilled pastiche by the composers.
