Review by Atle Simonsen

Continuum, the latest album by Eric McPherson, is a stunning showcase of the drummer's exceptional talent and creativity. Released in 2019, this album features nine original compositions that blend elements of jazz, funk, and world music to create a unique and captivating sound.

From the very first track, "The Sequel," McPherson's virtuosic drumming takes center stage, driving the music forward with a relentless energy and precision. His intricate rhythms are complemented by the melodic interplay between saxophonist Chris Potter, trumpeter John Ellis, and pianist Ethan Iverson, who all contribute their own distinctive voices to the ensemble.

Throughout the album, McPherson demonstrates his versatility as a composer and arranger, incorporating elements of Latin jazz on "New Perspective" and "Elvin's Sight," while exploring more atmospheric and introspective moods on tracks like "The Journey" and "Reflections."

One of the standout moments on Continuum is the hauntingly beautiful "Strange Days," which features Ellis on flugelhorn and Iverson on Fender Rhodes, creating a dreamy and ethereal atmosphere that is truly mesmerizing.
